  3. One is seldom at a loss for beautiful vistas in Flagstaff.  To the south, Arizona's pine forests stretch towards the canyons and red rocks of Sedona, while to the north Arizona's tallest mountain, Humphreys Peak, keeps watch over Flagstaff from a point 12, 670 feet above sea level.

People from throughout the world head to Flagstaff for its hotels, motels and hostels, which serve as a jumping off point for the Grand Canyon to the north (If you are planning to visit the North Rim, you will need to head North from Flagstaff -- the South Rim, however, is moe accessable from Williams).  Any evening in downtown Flagstaff, the bars are likely to serve up a pint to an Irish or South African traveler as they are to a local Northern Arizona University student.  In addition to the Grand Canyon, Humphreys peak is home to skiing at the Fairfield Snow Bowl from November to April.

  25. The Grand Canyon Cafe and the Hong Kong Cafe both serve up Chinese food on Santa Fe Ave. in Flagstaff.  Each establishment has a great neon sign, so try to swing by when it's dark.

  29. Joe's Place ΓÇó Situated at the corner of Santa Fe & San Francisco Streets, this old Flagstaff bar could be called one of the coolest in America.  Make sure to stop by for a drink and admire the interior.

The Museum Club ΓÇó The Museum Club of Flagstaff, Arizona was built in 1931 and has almost as much history and lore as fabled 66 itself.  Dean Eldridge, the Club's builder, operated it as a taxidermy, trading post, and tourist attraction.  Promoted as the largest log cabin in Arizona, the building was constructed around five trees that provide interior support and decoration.  The entryway is formed by the inverted forked trunk of a ponderosa pine.  In 1936, Doc Williams purchased the building and turned it into a saloon.  In the sixties and seventies aspiring and established country music stars played at the Museum Club due to its prime Route 66 location.  3404 E. Route 66, tel# 602-526-9434
